In July 2026, Bluewave New Energy in Ikeja advertised a full-time AI Customer Service Training Officer role. The requirements: a diploma or degree in any discipline, basic familiarity with ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude, and good documentation habits. Python? "An advantage but not required."
That advert answers the question most of you keep asking us. Yes, there are AI jobs without coding, and we count at least nine kinds that African employers and global AI companies are hiring for right now. In South Africa, Pnet found that roles needing AI skills grew 488% in six years, against 252% for specialist AI roles, and overtook them in the first half of 2025. The work is moving into ordinary jobs. Here is where, what each pays when we could verify it, and how a non-coder gets in.
Why non technical AI jobs are growing faster than engineering ones
Pnet's August 2025 job market report, covered by Daily Investor, split the market in two. "AI jobs" design, build and train models. "AI-skilled jobs" are traditional roles that expect you to use AI tools well. Over three years, the first group grew 31%. The second grew 151%.
Pnet's own line: "AI is no longer confined to specialist positions." Gauteng held 58% of the AI vacancies, Western Cape 24%.
Nigeria and Kenya publish less data, but the job adverts tell the same story. Once a company buys ChatGPT or Claude seats for 500 staff, it needs people who can make those tools give correct answers, check the output, write the policies and sell the product. None of that starts with a programming language.
The 9 AI jobs without coding (with real 2026 postings)

1. AI trainer and evaluator (domain expert)
AI labs pay professionals to write test questions, grade model answers and build scoring rubrics in their field. On Kenyan job boards this year, micro1 posted AI trainer roles for finance experts, logistics specialists, labour relations specialists and even front desk receptionists. Its guide to AI training jobs (May 2026) lists pay from $15–$40 an hour for general annotation up to $50–$100 for domain review, paid in USD, and says most roles need no computer science degree. Our full breakdown is in AI training jobs in Africa.
2. AI trainer for African languages
Your Yoruba, Hausa, Swahili or isiZulu is a skill AI companies cannot buy from Silicon Valley. In May 2026, RWS posted a 100% remote, freelance AI Data Specialist – Yoruba role: native Yoruba, strong English, tagging and comparing audio, video and text. The listing showed "8 USD" without saying per what, so treat that number with care. RWS ran a Swahili version too. This is entry-level money, but it is dollars and it builds a track record.
3. AI operations and automation specialist
These people wire AI into daily work: chatbots that answer customers, automations that move data between tools, knowledge bases the AI reads from. The Bluewave role above is the entry point. At the top end sits M-KOPA, which advertised an AI Operations Lead in Nairobi in March 2026 to run the AI tooling for more than 2,500 employees.
Be honest with yourself about the gap. M-KOPA asked for hands-on experience building agents with frameworks such as LangChain, MCP or Google ADK, plus scripting. You can start this path with Zapier or n8n and no code. You will not lead it without learning some.
4. AI product manager and product ops
Product managers decide what gets built and why. AI product teams want PMs who use AI daily. Umba's Senior Product Manager (AI-Native) role in Nairobi, posted September 2026, asked for five years in fintech product work, SQL "or willingness to learn quickly" and daily use of Claude Code. It also wanted someone comfortable enough to "ship a small PR with Claude Code". That is AI-assisted coding, not a computer science degree. ALX's June 2026 salary roundup puts senior AI PMs at $35,000–$90,000 a year; locally, CareerBuddy's product manager salary guide for Nigeria puts mid-level PMs at ₦300,000–₦600,000 a month.
5. AI content editor and quality reviewer
Companies now produce ten times more content with AI, and somebody has to catch the errors before customers do. Misters of Nigeria advertised an AI Content Specialist to create images, video concepts and copy with generative tools, then curate the output to brand standards. The requirement was a portfolio of AI-assisted creative work, not a degree. Editors, copywriters and designers fit here.
6. AI implementation and customer success
An AI product is useless until a client's staff use it. Intent HQ, a data and AI platform, is hiring a Client Success Manager, South Africa for Cape Town and Johannesburg to run onboarding, training and business reviews for banks, telcos and retailers. No programming listed. It does want ten-plus years client-facing in analytics, CRM or marketing tech, so this is a senior switch, not a first job.
7. AI sales and solutions
AI companies entering Africa need people who already know the buyers. In August 2026, Robert Walters advertised a Sales & Go-to-Market Professional for "a fast growing AI company" expanding into Anglophone West Africa, hybrid in Lagos, open to candidates in Nigeria or Ghana. The ask: enterprise B2B deals closed, a network of C-level buyers in banking or telecoms. Its technical cousin, the forward deployed engineer, does write production code. The sales seat does not.
8. AI policy, governance and ethics
Regulation is creating jobs for lawyers, compliance officers and auditors. On 14 October 2026, Samaha Consulting posted an AI Governance Manager role in Johannesburg: write AI policies, assess systems for bias, map them against POPIA, Nigeria's NDPC rules, GDPR and the EU AI Act. It asks for 8+ years in risk, privacy, compliance or audit. No coding. For graduates, Policy Vault in Abuja ran an AI and Emerging Technology Policy Fellowship in 2025 with a ₦350,000 monthly stipend.
9. AI-skilled versions of your current job
This is the biggest category by far, and the one Pnet's data points to. Renmoney's Lagos Product Marketing Manager advert listed "hands-on experience or clear comfort using AI tools in daily work" as a required skill, with an estimated ₦15 million to ₦25 million a year. Marketing, HR and finance adverts increasingly read the same way. The title does not change. The shortlist does.
