It looks like the global workforce is feeling pretty good about their career prospects in 2023. Despite the recent layoffs and economic uncertainty, A survey by LinkedIn found that a whopping 95% of professionals feel confident about their career prospects – even though half of the survey respondents were afraid of layoffs.
NOW HERE’S THE KICKER: 61% of workers are thinking about quitting their jobs! And you won’t be surprised to hear that the younger generation are leading the pack, with 72% of Gen Z and 66% of Millennials considering giving their two weeks’ notice. But before you start thinking “kids these days”, it’s worth noting that even 55% of Gen X and 30% of Baby Boomers are thinking about making a change.
As much as it might look like the economy is about to collapse, it’s important to note that this trend isn’t necessarily a bad thing. While it may seem risky to leave a job in this current climate, many workers are choosing to focus on building a career that they can be proud of, rather than clinging desperately to a ‘job role.’
And the data backs this up, with 4.2 million employees leaving their positions voluntarily in November 2022, which is near a record high of 4.53 million in November 2021.
SO: Whether you’re a Gen Z-er looking for your first big break or a Millennial thinking about a change, it looks like there’s never been a better time to focus on your career. And if you’re an employer, get with the program, your best employees may be thinking of moving on!
MEANWHILE: Did you notice that this survey was carried out on a job search website? Of course those respondents want to quit and get a new job.. But hey, a stat is a stat!
