Hello Buddy!
How’s the new year treating you so far? TBH, I don’t really know how I’m feeling about the year yet but I’ll let you know once I’m done circling back on all those 2022 emails ![😭](https://fonts.gstatic.com/s/e/notoemoji/15.0/1f62d/32.png)
So, I’m sure you read the subject line and went like, “Whaaaaaaaaaaaart?” “Eshope?” “Seye is talking in the nonsense”.
Lol! Well, it’s true. I think one of the most undermined strategies for growth amongst professionals is LEAVING. I mean we all finally leave but oftentimes, it’s because you got fired, got a better offer or are trying to escape your toxic boss.
As the popular saying goes, if it’s not broken, why fix it?
However, have you ever considered the possibility of outgrowing a job even when it pays well and there are no issues? I know you feel your little secret is safe ‘cos no one at work knows you feel dissatisfied with your job; so the plan is to ignore the emptiness within and keep ‘managing’ things.
Well, well, well… just dey play!
One of these 2 things will eventually happen if you keep staying in a job you have outgrown — you’ll either get fired or sabotage the company’s growth because one way or the other, you have become redundant and irrelevant to the next phase of yourself and that organization.
So as you start your 2023 work year, I’d like you to ask yourself these questions.
- Are my workdays starting to feel a lot longer than they did in the past? – Time flies fast when you’re fully focused and engaged.
- Am I getting the same or even more satisfaction from this job as I did when I started? – You don’t have to wait till it’s toxic or dreadful to leave. In fact, the best time to start searching for a new job is when you are having a good time at your current job but it still doesn’t give you a sense of fulfillment.
- Is there still room for me to grow here or have I done it all? – Your goal in life should not be to become a local champion. Work should help you grow, earn and learn.
- Has my income been stagnant for too long? —If you’ve been earning the same salary for more than 2 years, you’re missing out on the financial benefits of Job-hopping.
- Have I been thinking about quitting for a very long time now and a lot more recently? — You’ve been thinking about it for over a year now. It’s time to kickstart your exit strategy.
Making a decision to quit your job or start new career path can feel really scary. Still, it doesn’t mean you never once loved your job. It just means it’s time to move on.
Instead of ignoring your dissatisfaction, why not start making plans to quit and evolve this year? |
